This course is designed to give you an understanding of sports and physical fitness, providing a realistic simulation of a working environment within the industry. You'll cover nine units in a project-based format, including:

- Performance and Leadership Project
- Sports Coaching
- Leadership in Sport
- Practical Team Sports
- Future Destinations Project
- Preparing for a Career in Sport & Physical Activity
- Work experience in Sport
- Sport Development
- Health & Lifestyle Project, which includes Exercise, Health & Lifestyle, Fitness Testing for Sport, and Instructing Physical Activity & Exercise.

The advanced Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification (WBQ) is included in this program, which helps you develop skills and personal qualities valued by employers and higher education institutions. There may also be opportunities for additional qualifications, and you'll be expected to improve your literacy and numeracy skills.

5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English Language/Welsh (1st Language) and Maths or successful completion of a relevant Level 2 programme which must include achievement of numeracy and literacy.

An active interest in sports participation, coaching or officiating is a compulsory requirement for all applicants.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
Your assessment will involve written assignments, interactive presentations, podcasts, videos, panel interviews, practical performance, delivering coaching sessions, and successful work experience. All units are assessed and graded, with an overall grade of pass, merit, or distinction. You’ll also need to complete the necessary guided learning hours.

Upon achieving the second year of the program (the Extended Diploma in Sport), you can pursue further academic study at Higher Education institutions. Alternatively, you can find employment in the Sports/Recreation/Leisure industry in roles such as sports coaching, personal training, gym instructing, leisure services, or even with HM forces, the Police, or the Fire Service.
Some courses may require kit/uniform to be purchased. Please see attached kit list for further information.
