Course Overview

This practical course at Coleg Cambria will help you gain essential skills in a variety of engineering areas. You'll develop valuable skills in engineering measurements, calculations, and crucial health and safety practices. We'll provide you with the theory and knowledge you need to back up your hands-on practical skills.

This course follows a City & Guilds route, and you'll complete all the units listed below to achieve your full qualification:
*Working safely in an engineering environment
*Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively
*Using and communicating technical information
*Making components using hand tools and fitting techniques
*Using lathes for turning operations
*Assembling electronic circuits

Boost Your Core Skills:

We're committed to helping you strengthen your literacy and numeracy skills throughout the programme. You will have the opportunity to undertake Essential Skills Wales qualifications in Communication and Application of Number. These qualifications will help support your progression to higher levels of learning.

Your Support System:

You'll be assigned a Progress Coach who will be there to support you every step of the way. They'll ensure any additional learning needs (ALN) support is in place before you even start, and that any new support you might need during the course is quickly incorporated to help you succeed. This course is fully supported to meet your individual needs and learning differences.
4 GCSEs at grade E/2 or above including Maths and English Language/Welsh (1st Language) or successful completion of an equivalent qualification.

For all learners who are looking to progress onto this level 1 course from an Entry programme you must have achieved your main qualification, progressed in Maths and English and hit all of the targets in your ILP.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
You’ll be continuously assessed through assignments completed here at college. These will form a portfolio of evidence to meet the requirements of the awarding body. You’ll also take externally set and marked online examinations at key stages throughout the course.
Employers in the Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering industry increasingly value relevant National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs). This course can lead to trainee employment in various exciting trade disciplines, including:

*Fitting
*Mechanical/Assembly
*Electrical Engineering

If you gain employment, you might even have the chance to progress to Level 2/3 Mechanical Engineering, which could lead to completing an apprenticeship, depending on your employer’s conditions.
