Are you looking for a starting point for a rewarding career working outdoors? This course is designed for you if you're interested in managing land, habitats, wildlife, and conservation. It provides a strong foundation to help you progress either to a more specialist Level 3 qualification, such as Countryside Management or Forestry and Arboriculture, or to move directly into employment or a work-based apprenticeship.
What You'll Learn
You'll gain essential knowledge and practical skills, covering a wide range of topics, including:
● Safe working practices in the countryside.
● Work experience opportunities.
● Machine operation and tractor driving.
● Conservation and improvements to British habitats.
● Species surveying and monitoring.
● Countryside business principles.
● Estate skills.
● Practical forestry skills.
You'll learn through a variety of methods, benefiting from hands-on practical sessions, engaging classroom activities, enriching visits, and insights from guest speakers. You'll also make full use of the college’s extensive estate, including our 970-acre (400-hectare) farm and woodlands. As a vital part of the course, you will complete 150 hours in a work experience placement.

Educational trips are an important part of the course, providing opportunities for assessment and activities. Our strong links with businesses and organisations in the countryside create further learning opportunities through visits and practical sessions.
