Ready to turn your passion for animals into a rewarding career? Our Level 2 Certificate in Animal Nursing Assistants will equip you with the essential skills and knowledge to thrive in the veterinary care industry.

What You’ll Learn
This comprehensive course provides a strong understanding of the veterinary care industry and develops your practical competence and customer service skills, preparing you for employment in this vital sector. You’ll gain hands-on experience caring for a wide range of animals at our excellent Animal Care Centre, which is home to over a hundred species, including rabbits, pigs, snakes, lizards, and rodents.

You’ll develop skills and understanding in:
*Handling and restraining animals in a veterinary environment
*Caring for animals in a veterinary environment
*Basic principles of nursing and infection control
*Animal anatomy and physiology
*Performing administrative duties and customer care in a veterinary setting

We make learning as engaging as possible, using a variety of methods including lectures, individual and group work, and around 25% practical work. You'll also use modern learning technology to enhance your studies.

English and Maths are an integral part of the programme, and we'll support you in improving your literacy and numeracy skills and gaining qualifications.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including English/Welsh (1st Language) and Maths / Numeracy or Science
or
Have passed Level 2 Technical Certificate in Animal Care which must include achievement of numeracy and literacy

You must have secured a work experience placement in a veterinary practice for 10 days to be completed during your course and complete 1 week’s placement prior to commencing the course in September.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.

How you will be assessed

Your progress will be assessed through a variety of methods, including exams, written assignments, practical assessments, witness testimonies, and case studies. We’ll help you prepare by providing a range of mock examinations, assessments, and informal practice sessions.

It’s essential that you gain real experience in a veterinary care environment. You’ll need to carry out a minimum of 10 days of work experience at a veterinary practice, and it’s vital that you proactively secure this placement before the course begins.

English and Maths may also involve sitting examinations.

Your future career path

Upon completion, you’ll be well-prepared for a variety of roles in the animal care industry.

You could progress to:
*The Level 3 Apprenticeship in Veterinary Nursing
*The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management
*The Level 2 Work Based Apprenticeship in Animal Care

Please note: If you wish to progress onto a Level 3 Veterinary Nursing qualification and register as a Trainee Veterinary Nurse, you will need to meet the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) criteria.
