Course Overview

Our Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care is designed to give you the skills, knowledge, and experience you need to thrive in the animal industry. You'll gain a varied overview of animal care, getting hands-on experience with a wide range of animals at our excellent Animal Care Centre.

Our excellent Animal Care Centre offers access to over a hundred species, including rabbits, pigs, snakes, lizards, and rodents, giving you invaluable practical skills. We believe learning should be fun, so you'll experience a variety of methods, from lectures and group work and up to one day per week of practical work.

You'll also have the opportunity to improve your English and Maths skills, with support provided and potentially the chance to resit your GCSEs.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including English/Welsh (1st Language) and Maths / Numeracy or Science OR Successful completion of a relevant Level 1 programme which must include achievement of numeracy and literacy

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.

How you will be assessed

Your progress will be assessed through an examination, a controlled synoptic assignment, and a few controlled assessments. To help you prepare effectively, you’ll take part in mock examinations and informal practice assessments throughout the programme. You’ll also gain vital real-world experience through an external work placement in the animal care industry.

If you’re resitting English and Maths, these will also involve examinations.
