You don't need any prior knowledge of sociology, just an interest in contemporary social and political issues.

This course follows the WJEC specification and examines issues and themes using competing theories and concepts. Here’s a snapshot of what you'll cover:

* AS Unit 1: Acquiring Culture
Understand the key concepts of cultural transmission, socialisation, and identity.
Explore youth culture in depth.

* AS Unit 2: Understanding Society and Methods of Sociological Enquiry
Delve into the methods sociologists use to study society.
Gain insight into the sociology of education.

* A2 Unit 3: Power and Control
Examine the theme of Crime and deviance.

* A2 Unit 4: Social Inequality and Applied Methods of Sociological Enquiry
Develop your skills in applied sociological enquiry.
Investigate social differentiation and stratification.

This course is demanding and will help you hone your literacy skills for essay writing, as well as analytical and evaluative skills for researching studies and texts.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English Language / Welsh 1st Language and Maths.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
Internal assessments will use a variety of formats to enable students to gain a clear picture of their progress and take action for improvement. Internal Mock examinations will be held in December. External examinations are held in May (for AS) and May/June (for A2).
