Course Overview
This two-year course, equivalent to three A-levels, will prepare you for a rewarding career in Children's Play, Learning, and Development settings or services across Wales and Ireland, covering ages from birth to 19 years.
What you'll learn:
You'll explore a wide range of topics essential for working with children, including:
- Values and principles in childcare
- Health, well-being, learning, and development
- Professional practice and safeguarding
- Promoting play, learning, and development
- Understanding behaviours and additional needs
A significant part of this course involves practical placement, where you'll gain hands-on experience. You'll need to complete a minimum of 700 hours in a relevant setting over the two years.

5 GCSEs at grades C/4 or above including English Language/Welsh (1st Language), Maths and preferably Science, OR Successful completion of a relevant Level 2 programme which must include achievement of numeracy and literacy.
Learners who have not yet completed the Level 2 Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development: Core will also complete this qualification alongside their level 3 to provide them with the license to practice to work with children.

This qualification will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed for employment or career progression in childcare or health settings.
Further Education:
Successfully completing this Diploma can open doors to Higher Education, such as a Foundation Degree in Early Years, Teaching, or an Early Years Honours Degree.
