Full Time, This is a 1 year full time course.
The Access course delivery is a credit based, modular course which can be studied full time over a period of one year (34 academic weeks) running from September to June. The course runs (usually over 4 days) 9.30am-2.30pm.

An important aspect of this programme is your own personal time management and it is crucial that you plan ahead in regards to your allocation of both in class and independent studies. Having such a plan in place will support you and your success.

Course Overview

Are you ready to make a real difference in people's lives and embark on a rewarding career in healthcare? This one-year, full-time Access to Higher Education Diploma is designed to prepare you for university study, opening doors to exciting opportunities in nursing, midwifery, occupational therapy, and other allied health professions.

What You'll Learn
The diploma aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed for university-level study and includes a variety of engaging subjects and essential core skills. You may explore modules such as:

* Anatomy & Physiology: Understand how the human body works.
* Sociology/Psychology: Explore the social and psychological aspects of health.
* Health Studies: Delve into key health-related topics.
* Communication Skills: Develop effective communication vital for healthcare settings.
* Study Skills: Learn essential techniques for academic success.

You'll also develop crucial core skills, including:
* Communication
* Study Skills
* Numeracy

Your tutor will guide you on the specific modules relevant to your learning journey.
GCSE grade C/4 in English/ Welsh (1st Language) or Maths, with at least grade D/3 in the other subject
or
Level 2 AON or Communication, with at least Level 1 in the other subject.

Experience in a suitable Health Care setting is preferred. Applicants should be 19+ to study this course.

However, we encourage adults with life and work experience to still apply even if they don’t have the above entry requirements as each learner application is assessed on an individual basis.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact individual universities for information about entry requirements. Many Nursing degree courses ask for GCSEs at C/4 or above in Maths and English.

You may be advised to enrol on the Preparation For Career and Study course or ESWS prior to starting the Access course. These programmes allow the opportunity to take a GCSE in either Maths or English.
Your progress will be assessed through continuous assessment, primarily assignment work, along with some timed tests and examination practice. You’ll achieve credits upon satisfactory completion of each unit. To be awarded the Agored Cymru ‘QAA-recognised’ Access to HE Diploma, you’ll need to achieve 60 credits, including a number of mandatory credits. Level 3 credits are graded as Pass, Merit, or Distinction, reflecting your achievements.
Upon successful completion of this diploma, you’ll be well-equipped to pursue degree courses and embark on a fulfilling career in the care sector.

This qualification can lead to roles in:
* Nursing
* Midwifery
* Occupational Therapy
* Operating Department Practice (ODP)
* And many other Allied Health Professions.
