Course Overview

Develop Your Expertise in the Agricultural Livestock Industry!

This qualification is designed to provide you with a wide range of modern, specialist, and practical technical skills. You'll gain a deeper understanding of the agricultural livestock industry through detailed lessons and training.

What You'll Study

Your studies will focus on agriculture, helping you develop skills and understanding in:
● Modern grassland management techniques.
● Breed analysis.
● Machinery use and management.
● Estate maintenance and management.
● Modern livestock performance recording.
● Crop and soil sampling.

You'll get hands-on experience using innovative and up-to-date technology, including grass measuring plate meters, a faecal egg counting microscope, and a fleet of modern tractors and machinery.

Your Future Career

Using innovative and up-to-date livestock technology, you will develop skills and experience to help you become a more efficient:
● Farm Manager
● Agronomist
● Assistant Farm Manager
● Livestock Specialist
● Machinery Operator

How You'll Learn

Your learning will take place through our purpose-built Agricultural Teaching Centre, industry-standard workshops, and modern lab facilities. The course will also involve visits to the industry, agricultural shows, and you'll make full use of our diverse 400-hectare commercial working farm, which includes a large dairy herd, beef and sheep, an arable unit, and a range of woodland.

You will also undertake work placements throughout the course within a relevant land-based business. These invaluable placements are integral to the course, allowing you to further develop your skills and establish links within the industry, helping to strengthen your future employment prospects.

Essential Skills are an integral part of the programme, and you will undertake additional qualifications to improve your Numeracy, Literacy, and ICT skills. You will also have the opportunity to work on enterprise activities and complete the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate relevant to your subject course.

Additional Qualifications

You'll also have the option to undertake external assessments to gain certificates of competence in:
● Veterinary medicines
● Transport of animals
● Sheep shearing
● Telescopic handler
● Pesticide spraying
● ATVs
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including Maths and English Language/Welsh (1st Language)
OR Successful completion of a relevant Level 2 programme which must include achievement of numeracy and literacy.
