Course Overview
The Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design is a full-time, one-year course designed for those passionate about art and design. This qualification provides the essential skills, knowledge, and understanding required for further study and training in various art and design fields, including Fine Art, Digital Art, Printmaking, Ceramics, Photography, Animation and others.
Course Content and Structure
The program offers an immersive learning experience, introducing you to crucial activities in art and design, such as research, idea development, technical skill utilisation, and evaluation. You'll explore materials, methods, and processes supporting art and design activities, developing related technical skills. The course will prepare you for Level 3 studies and a career in the Art & Design industry.
You'll gain skills through a range of activities, working in 2D, 3D and 4D. This includes drawing from observation, painting, craft making, textiles, digital art, animation, photography, printmaking and ceramics. There will be opportunities to collaborate with practicing artists, designers, and craftspeople, and participate in cultural and contextual activities through educational visits.
The course is structured into three stages:
- Stage 1 (September to November): You'll explore various areas of the creative industries through workshops, learning a wide range of skills and techniques, effective research methods, and portfolio presentation.
- Stage 2 (November to February): You'll complete projects in 2D, 3D, and 4D, learning to plan and execute successful art and design projects while enhancing your skills in preparation for the Final Major Project (FMP).
- Stage 3 (March to June): With tutor guidance, you'll choose a specialist pathway and complete your own project based on a set theme. This project is internally and externally assessed and graded as Pass, Merit, or Distinction, determining your final qualification grade.
Upon successful completion, you will achieve the UAL Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design.
English and Maths Development
Coleg Cambria is dedicated to supporting your progression to employment or Higher Education.
