Course Overview
Are you ready to explore the dynamic world of business and understand how it shapes our lives? This A Level Business course will help you gain a strong understanding of how businesses operate and are affected by national and international issues.
What You'll Learn
You'll investigate real-life business examples to bring meaning to the theory you study. Throughout the course, you'll take part in engaging activities like role-plays, class discussions, and group and individual work. We'll also encourage you to keep up to date with current affairs to see how they impact businesses in Wales, the UK, and globally.
In your first year, you'll dive into two modules:
* Starting a New Business: You'll learn about the exciting world of entrepreneurship, understanding the range of activities involved in setting up a small business, from researching the market and deciding on the legal structure to sourcing finance.
* Measuring Business Effectiveness: You'll examine how larger businesses measure their success through their four main functions: Marketing (effectively communicating with customers), Finance (planning, monitoring, and assessing finances), Operations Management (how efficiently raw materials are transformed into products or services), and Human Resources (how workers are organised and managed for productivity).
In your second year, you'll build on your knowledge and explore business operations from a national and global perspective at a strategic level.
* Analytical Techniques and Strategies: You'll focus on understanding and using analytical techniques and developing appropriate business strategies, such as using decision-making models.
* Adapting to a Dynamic Environment: You'll learn how businesses adapt to succeed in a changing external environment, understanding how various external factors can affect day-to-day activities, decision-making, and strategy.
At this level, you'll take more responsibility for your own learning, reading around subject areas and keeping your current affairs knowledge up to date. While there's no coursework, you will complete essays and reports at A2 level.

The second examination includes two sections: Section A will have a number of questions, mostly requiring extended answers, based on a case study, and Section B requires you to write synoptic essays.
