Are you ready to capture your vision and master the art of digital image making? This A Level Art & Design course is a challenging, rewarding, and exciting programme of study that offers a valuable experience for you if you have a keen interest in digital image making and photography.
What You'll Learn
This course covers a broad range of photographic areas, including editorial, advertising, fashion, documentary, fine art, and creative practices. You'll develop your creative skills through a variety of photographic activities, exploring a wide range of techniques, approaches, and experimental imagery, alongside both traditional and digital processes. By the end of the course, you'll produce a personal portfolio of work.
You'll investigate historical and contemporary photographic practices, drawing inspiration from the work of others, while also developing your own image editing and analysis skills. This course will broaden your lifelong transferable skills, such as problem-solving, independent learning, and visual language, all while encouraging your creative potential.
Using our specialist photography studio, wet-based darkroom, and digital Mac suites, you'll learn industry-standard techniques to support you in developing your artistic style and visual communication skills. Integral to the course are opportunities to attend workshops with photographers and creatives, visit galleries and museums, and participate in creative industry competitions at local, national, and international levels.

At AS Level, you’ll complete one non-exam assessment unit:
* Personal Creative Enquiry: This is an extended, exploratory project/portfolio based on themes and subject matter that are personal and meaningful to you. This unit is internally assessed and externally moderated.
At A2 Level, you’ll complete two non-exam assessment units:
* Unit 2 – Personal Investigation: This is a major, in-depth critical, practical, and theoretical investigative project/portfolio, which includes an extended written element of a minimum of 1000 words.
* Unit 3 – Externally Set Assignment: This assignment is set by the awarding body.
Both Unit 2 and Unit 3 are internally assessed and externally moderated.
