Course Overview

Ready to take your passion for numbers to the next level? A Level Mathematics will help you develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and equip you with essential skills for your future. This course is designed to empower you to solve complex problems, think critically, and apply mathematical models to real-world situations.

What You'll Learn
You will explore the exciting world of pure mathematics, mechanics, and statistics. This course will challenge you to use mathematical reasoning, knowledge, and proof to solve problems and use data to model real-world scenarios. You'll also learn to understand the relevance of mathematics to other subjects, the workplace, and society as a whole.

The course is split into two years of study:
* Year 1 (AS Level): You will study Pure Maths in Unit 1 and a combination of Statistics and Mechanics in Unit 2.
* Year 2 (A2 Level): You will build on your knowledge with more Pure Maths in Unit 3 and a combination of Statistics, Differential Equations, Numerical Methods, and Mechanics in Unit 4.

For those who are passionate, capable and confident mathematicians, we recommend considering A Level Further Maths. This is a highly sought-after qualification at many universities for those who want to study subjects like Physics, Engineering, or Chemistry.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
Your knowledge will be assessed through written papers at the end of each year.

AS Level:
Unit 1: A 2.5-hour written paper on Pure Maths (worth 25% of the full A level).
Unit 2: A 1.75-hour written paper on Applied Maths, covering both Statistics and Mechanics (worth 15% of the full A level).

A2 Level:
Unit 3: A 2.5-hour written paper on Pure Maths (worth 35% of the full A level).
Unit 4: A 1.75-hour written paper on Applied Maths, covering Statistics, Differential Equations, Numerical Methods, and Mechanics (worth 25% of the full A level).
To help you prepare, you will also sit internal mock exams to give you realistic experience.
An A Level in Mathematics is a highly desirable qualification for a wide range of higher education courses and a variety of occupations. With this qualification, you could pursue a career in the Civil Service, finance, banking, or work in technical, computing, scientific, or engineering fields. The skills you develop in this course are applicable to almost all areas of industry.
