Additionally, students will undertake exercises such as fitness testing and mandatory units like Citizenship, Society and the Public Services and Crime and its Effects on Society and Individuals.
Optional units will be selected from a range of topics including Preparing to Respond to Emergency Incidents, Health, Fitness and Lifestyle and Multi-day Expedition Experience.

In addition to this main programme, all students will be undertaking community engagement activities, whilst working to achieve the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Students will also be able to re-sit GCSEs in English Language and Maths or Essential Skills if required.
For those with GCSE English and Maths, there will be extension activities to help continue to improve literacy and numeracy skills.
Learners will be assessed through a range of methods including examinations, written assignments, oral presentations, practical activities and other work related experience.

Assessment on this programme will be continuous and achievement can be either at Pass, Merit or Distinction level.

During the course, learners will benefit from outdoor expeditions, visits to various public service establishments (subject to availability) as well as visits by personnel from a variety of uniformed public services.
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including Maths and English/Welsh (1st Language)
or for Progression learners;

or
A related L1 course supported by 2 GCSEs at grade D/3 and an improved standard in Literacy and Numeracy.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
The course will be an ideal base for progression into apprenticeships with the Armed Services or the NCFE Level 3 Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Protective Services (601/8792/X) (providing the student achieves an overall Merit grade along with GCSE English and Maths Grade C/4).

It is also of particular benefit for individuals who wish to enter and pursue a career in the Uniformed Public Services such as:
the British Army, Royal Navy or the Royal Air Force or Emergency Services such as the Police, Fire or Ambulance Service or finally the Prison Service or Border Agency.
Some courses may require kit lists to be purchased. Please see attached kit list for further information.
