Course Overview
A combination of theory and practical units providing opportunities to gain the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to be successful in future studies and employment in the sports industry.

If you are passionate about Sport and want to pursue a career in the industry this is the course for you.

Year 1

● Health, Wellbeing and Sport
● Developing Coaching Skills
● Sport Development
● Self Employment in Sport and Physical Activity
● Practical Sports Application

Year 2
● Applied Coaching Skills
● Research Project in Sport
● Fitness Testing
● Sports Psychology
● Anatomy and Physiology
● Influence of Technology in Sport

Additional qualifications and training are made available to learners over the duration of the two year course to further enhance future progression and employability prospects:

● National Governing Body Level 1 coaching awards in a variety of sports
● Sports Leaders UK Level 2 Community Sports Leaders Award
● First Aid
● Safeguarding
The course comprises internally assessed units.

Assessment will be in the form of written assignments, presentations, practical sports performance, the delivery of coaching sessions and successful work experience.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including Maths and English Language/Welsh (1st Language).

Active participation in sport as a performer, coach or official outside of college hours is a compulsory requirement.

Progression learners should have a minimum Merit grade profile from a relevant Level 2 course.

At Coleg Cambria, we would encourage you to do your very best in your exams. The better your grades, the more options you will have, and as a result you may be able to progress to a higher level course
Following completion of the two year Extended Diploma learners are able to progress to further their academic study at university.

The two year course can attract up to 168 UCAS points.

Alternatively students may find direct entry to employment in the sports and active leisure industry.

Recent leavers progressing to higher education have gained places to study sports related course at Cardiff Metropolitan University, Liverpool John Moores and University of Chester. Alternatively, other leavers have gained employment in the sports industry working for local employers such as Freedom Leisure and Urdd.
