There is a significant placement element attached to the course and you will be required to achieve a minimum of 700 hours in a relevant setting over the 2 years.

This is a 3 A level equivalent course.
This course is made up of a mixture of mandatory units and optional units.
The units will be a mixture of knowledge and understanding and competence and skills.

Assessments therefore take the form of a portfolio of evidence, assessments, case studies, observations and discussions by an assessor within a setting.

Also, you will need to sit:
• an external examination
• an externally set and marked extended investigation
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including Maths, English/Welsh (1st Language) and preferably Science, or successful completion of a relevant Level 2 qualification.

Learners who have not yet completed the Level 2 Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development: Core will also complete this qualification alongside their Level 3 to provide them with the license to practice to work with children.

Progression learners moving from Level 2 will need at least a C/4 in English and a D/3 in Maths or ESW AON level 1 and Communications Level 2.
Learners will be able to work towards a C/4 in Maths during their course, however, the opportunity to achieve a third A level will be discussed on an individual basis.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
Employment is available within Local Authority Schools, Day Nurseries, the Health Service, Playwork and Care settings, Special Needs Units, the Travel Industry and with private families who require nannies. There will also be opportunities to travel abroad.

This qualification allows learners to develop the knowledge and skills required for employment and/or career progression in childcare or health settings.

Successful completion of the Diploma could lead to Higher Education such as a Foundation Degree in Early Years, Teaching or an Early Years Hons Degree.
Some courses may require kit lists to be purchased. Please see attached kit list for further information.
