Course Overview
This course is made up of a variety of units in which you will develop skills to enable you to achieve the qualification.

This will be through a range of activities such as:

• Performing Popular Music Styles in a Band/Ensemble
• Solo Performance and Practice Techniques
• Music Composition Techniques
• Basic/Intermediate Music Theory
• Live Sound Engineering
• Recording and Production Techniques using Digital Audio Workstations
• Collaborating With Other Learners on Creative Projects
• Research Skills
• Preparation for Employment in the Music Industry

There will be opportunities to take part in live events and performances in the local area, as well as participating in activities and educational visits to support your studies.

The aim of this course is to develop your skills in a wide range of industry relevant Music performance and technological practices.

Your learning programme is made up of a number of qualifications.
Coleg Cambria is committed to supporting your progression to employment or Higher Education. Therefore, all courses at Coleg Cambria provide the opportunity for the development of English and Maths to Level 2 and ideally to GCSE Grade C/4 if you haven't already achieved this at school/college. This will enhance your prospects in the jobs market and will also enable progression to Higher Education.

Students who successfully complete this course will gain the UAL Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance
The method of assessment on this course is coursework/portfolio based and you will not be required to sit formal exams. Summative units are graded pass, merit or distinction and are internally and externally assessed.

You will be required to achieve a minimum of a pass grade in each of the formative units to qualify for an overall qualification grade
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including English Language/Welsh (1st Language), or for progression students the successful completion at Level 1 qualification in Music, Level 1 qualification Music, Performing and Production Arts and recommendation from course tutors.

A basic proficiency in playing at least one musical instrument (vocals/singing are also considered to be a musical instrument).

Following application for this course, prospective Level 2 learners will also be required to engage in a short, ‘taster’ entrance project in which learners will have the opportunity to showcase their practical instrument or production skills as well as their written work. This ‘taster’ entrance project is designed to gauge the learner’s suitability for the course and to help learners decide whether the course is the right choice for you.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
Level 2 Diplomas are valued by employers and the course prepares you for employment in the Music and Performing Arts Industries.

If you want to continue and progress with your studies you can take a Level 3 qualification in a similar subject such as Music Performance, Sound Engineering, Live Events, Performing Arts or Technical Theatre.
