Course Overview
This practical course will help you gain skills in a variety of Engineering.

You will also gain skills in Engineering measurements and calculations and health and safety. This course will provide you with the theory and knowledge that underpins the practical competencies. This course follows a City and Guilds route and all students will need to complete all of the units listed below to gain a complete qualification.

City & Guilds 7682 Certificate Performing Engineering Operations: Practical Work (Example Units)
Unit 201 - Working Safely in an Engineering Environment
Unit 102 - Carrying out Engineering Activities Efficiently and Effectively
Unit 103 - Using and Communicating Technical Information
Unit 104 - Making Components Using Hand Tools and Fitting Techniques
Unit 107 - Using Lathes for Turning Operations
Unit 123 - Assembling Electronic Circuits

Development of Literacy and Numeracy Skills.

Learners who have not achieved a grade C/4 in GCSE Mathematics and English will be expected to attend sessions to support this in addition to their vocational programme.
This course requires continual assessment of College based assignments which will be collated as portfolio evidence to meet the needs of the awarding body.

Additionally externally set and marked online examinations will be scheduled at key stages throughout the course.
4 GCSEs at grade E/2 or above including Maths and English Language/Welsh (1st Language) or successful completion of an equivalent qualification.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
An increasing number of employers in the Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering industry now see the acquisition of relevant National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ’s)
Opportunities may exist to gain trainee employment in any of the following trade disciplines:

Fitting
Mechanical/Assembly
Electrical Engineering

Learners who gain employment may also, depending on conditions offered by their employer, have the opportunity to progress to Level 2/3 Mechanical Engineering which would complete your apprenticeship.
