Level 2 Diploma in Countryside and Environment

If you’re looking for a starting point for a career working in the countryside, covering the management of land, habitats, wildlife, and conservation, this course is for you. This course provides a sound base to progress into either a more specialist level 3 qualification, such as Countryside Management or Forestry and Arboriculture, or to go into employment. Alternatively it could lead to a work based apprenticeship.

The course covers safe working in the countryside, work experience, machine operation and tractor driving, conservation and improvements to British habitats, species surveying and monitoring, countryside business, estate skills, and practical forestry skills.

You will be taught in a variety of ways, and benefit from practical hands-on sessions, classroom activities, visits and guest speakers, whilst making full use of the college’s extensive estate, including the 970 acre (400 hectare) farm and woodlands. You will spend 150 hours in a work experience placement as part of the course.

Educational trips are an important part of the course, and strong links with businesses and organisations in the countryside, provide further learning opportunities in the form of visits and practical sessions.

English and maths GCSE resits will also be offered to those who did not achieve grade C/4 or above.
