Course Overview
This qualification is designed to provide you with a very wide range of modern, specialist technical practical skills, delivery though detailed lesson and training which will further your understanding within the agricultural livestock industry.
Your studies will focus on agriculture. You will develop skills and understanding on modern grassland management techniques, breed analysis, machinery use and management, estate maintenance and management, modern livestock performance recording, crop and soil sampling.
Using innovative and up-to-date technology using the latest machinery such as grass measuring plate meters, a fecal egg counting microscope and a fleet of modern tractors and machinery.
Using innovative and up-to-date livestock technology you will develop skills and experience to help develop knowledge and understanding to become a more efficient:
●Farm Manager
●Agronomist
●Assistant Farm Manager
●Livestock Specialist
●Machinery Operator
These are delivered through our purpose built Agricultural Teaching Centre, Industry standard workshops and modern lab facilities. The course will also involve visits to industry, agricultural shows as well as making full use of our diverse commercial working farm, consisting of 400Ha with a large dairy herd, beef and sheep, arable unit, and a range of woodland.
You will also undertake work placements throughout the course within a relevant Land-Based business. These invaluable placements are integral to the course, allowing you to further develop your skills, as well as establish links within industry, helping to strengthen your future employment prospects.
Essential Skills are an integral part of the programme and you will undertake additional qualifications to improve your Numeracy, Literacy and ICT skills. You will also have the opportunity to work on enterprise activities and complete the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate relevant to your subject course.
In addition, you will also have the option to undertake external assessments to gain certificates of competence in veterinary medicines, transport of animals sheep shearing, telescopic handler, pesticide spraying and ATVs.

5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English/Welsh (1st Language) and Maths or equivalent or Level 2 Diploma in Agriculture.
