Course Overview
This course is ideal for students with few or no qualifications. It is designed to allow students to gain excellent practical skills in a variety of Land-based areas including agriculture, horticulture, conservation, estates skills and engineering. Students will develop many practical skills such as feeding, health checking and moving farm animals, maintaining areas of habitats, maintaining footpaths, upkeep of green areas and carrying out basic motor vehicle maintenance.

The subjects studied include;
● Farm Animal Accommodation and Feeding
● Introduction to Farm Animals
● Plants and Wildlife
● Basic Motor Vehicle Maintenance
● Conservation Skills
● Horticulture Skills
●Estates Skills
● Health & Safety
● Develop Personal Performance

The course is made up of classroom-based activities, practical work and sessions to help build up your English and Maths skills. Your practical sessions will make up half of your college work.

We also offer;
- Numerous educational visits throughout the year.
- Access to guest speakers and industry specialists.
- Full use of the farm and estate on site.

Where will I study?
Llysfasi is located in the breathtaking North East Wales countryside of Ruthin, which is within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

What animals will I study at Llysfasi?
During your studies, you will have regular access to our 970 acre farm, where you will learn about managing our dairy cows and lowland and hill sheep, and participating in estate skills on the farm and woodland.
You will be assessed in many different ways which are designed to stretch and encourage your development:

• Practical activities working around our site
• Short knowledge questions

You will also work towards improving Literacy and Numeracy.
There are no exams on this course.
No formal qualifications required. It is essential that you have a strong interest in activities and learning.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course
Level 1 Animal Care.
Level 1 Land Based Studies

In order to progress you will need to pass Entry 3 Animal Care and Land Based Studies, and Basic Skills Maths and English.
Some courses may require equipment and/or uniforms to be purchased. Please see attached equipment list for further information.
