Information for new vehicle testers:

All new vehicle MOT testers for vehicle classes 4-7 will need to have a level 3 qualification in Service and Repair of Vehicles or similar. (The full list of accepted qualifications is available from the Gov.UK / Becoming a MOT tester)

For people who have worked in the motor trade for many years who do not have a level 3 qualification and have just had trade experiences or a level 2, this is the bridging programme to allow them to become a Vehicle MOT Tester.

Once you have completed this programme you can then apply to start the MOT tester class 4-7 qualification City and Guilds 3428-02.

Once you have completed and passed both of the above programmes you can apply to the DVSA to have a site visit (VT8). They will observe you using the MOT equipment at your place of work to ensure you are able to use it with your new skills correctly.

When completed successfully you will then become a fully qualified MOT tester.
1. Observation of 6 practical skills assessments
2. On-line computer multi-choice test
Students will have to show they have worked in the motor trade as a vehicle technician/mechanic for a minimum of 4 years
