The college’s Board of Governors (also known as the Corporation Board) is made up of 21 Members drawn from a number of areas with a broad range of skills, expertise and experiences.  Included within the membership are two Student Governors, two Staff Governors and an Associate Governor – Social Partnership.

The Board is responsible for the efficient management of the college, including:

  • The determination of the educational character and mission of the institution and oversight of its activities
  • The effective and efficient use of resources, the solvency of the institution and the safeguarding of its assets
  • Approving the annual estimates of income and expenditure
  • The appointment, grading, suspension, dismissal and determination of the pay and conditions of service of the holders of senior posts and the Governance Officer and Clerk to the Board
  • The setting of a framework for the pay and conditions of service of all other staff

These responsibilities are set out in the College’s Articles of Government as outlined in the Coleg Cambria Further Education Corporation (Government) Regulations 2013.  The Chair of the Governing Body is Prof Tim Wheeler. Coleg Cambria’s Chief Executive Officer, Yana Williams, is also a member of the Governing Body.

Code of Conduct for Coleg Cambria Governors

All members agree to adhere to the Code of Conduct when they accept their position to serve as a member of the Governing Body or co-opted committee member. They also agree to the Seven Principles of Public Life (Nolan Principles).  These positions are unpaid, voluntary roles.

Committees

The Governing Body is supported by the following Committees:

  • Audit and Risk Committee: oversees the College’s risk management and internal control processes and monitoring the work of the internal and external audit services.
  • Curriculum and Standards Committee: focuses on curriculum matters, including curriculum planning and performance, learner support provision, quality and continuous improvement processes.
  • Finance People and Culture Committee: monitors and reviews a range of areas including HR, professional development, finance, estates and capital projects.
  • Remuneration Committee: considers matters relating to the performance, pay and conditions of the senior postholders and the Governance Officer.
  • Search and Governance Committee: oversees the process for recruiting Governors, monitors the diversity and skills profile of the Board, considers succession planning together with Governor training and development and other governance matters.
