Course Overview
This programme will be delivered through a combination of online and face to face sessions to suit your individual needs, subject to us being able to work within the Welsh Government guidance and legislation to ensure the safety of you and our staff.
We will also continue to support those with additional learning needs remotely.
Please note that where work placements are not able to be fulfilled for safety reasons we will adapt modules to include work related projects in a way that will still develop your work based skills.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
The programme framework outlines an attractive and innovative approach to teacher education and training that meets the current need for accredited teaching and training qualifications in the diverse post-compulsory sector. The PGCE is aimed at those who have a degree in the subject they wish to teach. This course is accredited through Aberystwyth University and leads
MODULES:
You will study 6 of the following modules of 20 credits each.
• Effective Teaching for Effective Learning 1
• Effective Teaching for Effective Learning 2
• Specialist Subject Learning and Development
• Learning Literacies
• Equality, Diversity and Inclusive Learning
• Learning Digital Competencies
• Offender Learning (a requirement if you have a placement in HMP Berwyn) (Yale only)
• Bilingual Learning (Yale only) You will also carry out teaching practice and professional development through a one day per week teaching placement, a minimum of 100 teaching hours. If you complete the course over two years, you will study 3 modules per year. You will also carry out teaching practice and professional development through a one day per week teaching placement.
WORK PLACEMENT
This programme contains an essential work placement component. If you are not already in employment, we will support you to find a suitable work placement. Covid regulations are in place in the case that Covid-19 disrupts teaching placements.

A range of assessment methods throughout the programme will include reports, reflective journals, observations, essays, presentations and a teaching folder. There are no formal examinations on the PGCE.
PCE – PCET
5 years vocational experience and a Level 3 or above in a vocational discipline.
A Disclosure and barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Police check is required for this course.

Designed especially for those who want a nationally recognised qualification in order to teach students in Further Education, sixth form and tertiary colleges, prisons, adult education and work-based learning settings. We will support you with finding a suitable placement within the College, community or through HMP Berwyn if you have an interest in Offender Learning.
Full time £9000 per annum

Travel costs to and from a work placement are to be covered by the student.
