This A Level English Combined Language & Literature course is an enjoyable, challenging, and highly successful programme designed to prepare you for a wide range of exciting career paths and higher education opportunities.

What You'll Learn
You'll delve into a diverse range of texts, from poetry and drama to novels, journalism, and other non-literary forms. You'll gain a detailed understanding of linguistic and literary terms, and explore the contexts in which texts are created and received.

First Year (AS Level)
* Discover Poetry: You'll study a captivating poetry anthology.
* Analyse Unseen Texts: Develop your comparative skills by analysing unseen texts across various genres.
* Creative Writing & Commentary: Unleash your creativity by writing in different genres and learn to craft insightful commentaries on your work.
* Drama & Non-Literary Texts: Immerse yourself in a detailed study of one drama text and one non-literary text.

Second Year (A2 Level)
* Shakespearean Study: Explore a Shakespeare text in depth, focusing on detailed analysis of extracts and extended essay writing.
* Unseen Texts (Including Spoken): Enhance your analytical abilities by studying unseen texts from different periods and types, including spoken texts.
* Prose Exploration: Undertake a detailed study of a prose text.
* Coursework Project: Showcase your skills by submitting two pieces of coursework: an essay (1500-2000 words) and a piece of creative writing (1000-1500 words).
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English Language or Welsh (1st Language) and Mathematics.

Note: Cannot be taken in combination with AS/A-level English Language or AS/A-level English Literature.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
At AS level, there are two, 2-hour summer examinations.
At A2 level, students submit coursework and sit two 2-hour summer examinations.

Mock examinations will be held in December and March.
Mock examinations will be held in January (AS) and February (A2).
