Course Overview
Are you ready to spark your career in engineering? This Level 1 Fabrication & Welding course will equip you with essential skills and open doors to exciting opportunities in the industry.
What You'll Learn:
During your time in Fabrication & Welding, you'll gain hands-on experience and develop vital practical skills. You'll learn all about performing engineering operations safely in a workshop environment, using industry-approved tools and equipment such as sheet metal cutting machines and MIG & MAG welding equipment.
You'll also dive deeper into the theory behind working in the engineering industry. We'll support you in developing your literacy and numeracy skills, which are crucial for success in engineering. Plus, you'll get ready for the world of work with opportunities to develop interview skills, meet employers, and prepare for apprenticeships.
As part of this course, you will achieve two main qualifications:
*City and Guilds 2850-10: Theory Certificate in Engineering
Working in Engineering
Working with Sheet Metals
Carrying out MIG Processes
*City and Guilds 7682 NVQ Certificate in Performing Engineering Operations: Practical
Working Safely in an Engineering Environment
Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively
Using and communicating engineering information
Carrying out sheet metal cutting, forming, and assembly activities
Using Semi-Automatic MIG or MAG Welding Equipment
Literacy and numeracy development will be a core focus for all learners. You will have the opportunity to undertake Essential Skills Wales qualifications in Communication and Application of Number. These qualifications will help support your progression to higher levels of learning.
You'll be assigned a Progress Coach who will support you throughout your time on the programme. They'll ensure any additional learning needs are addressed before you start and will incorporate any new support needs that may arise to help you succeed. This course is fully supported to meet your individual needs and learning differences.

4 GCSEs at grade E/2 or above including Maths and English Language/Welsh (1st Language) or successful completion of an equivalent qualification.
For all learners who are looking to progress onto this level 1 course from an entry programme you must have achieved your main qualification, progressed in Maths and English and hit all of the targets in your ILP.

Your progress will be continually assessed through college-based assignments, which will be collected as portfolio evidence for the awarding body. Additionally, City and Guilds and externally set and marked examinations will be scheduled at key stages throughout the course.
This course can lead to trainee employment opportunities in exciting trade disciplines such as:

*Pipefitting
*Steelwork Construction
After successfully completing your first year, you can progress to the Level 2 Programme in Fabrication and Welding or become an employed Foundation Apprentice. If you gain employment, you may also have the opportunity to progress to Level 3 in Fabrication and Welding in the future, depending on the conditions offered by your employer.

After successfully completing your first year, you can progress to the Level 2 Programme in Fabrication and Welding or become an employed Foundation Apprentice.
