Course Overview
Take your first exciting step into the construction industry with this fully supported Entry programme. This course is designed for you if you're looking to explore different construction trades and get a genuine feel for the sector. You'll also build up your own confidence, develop life skills, and gain the foundations you need to move forward.
You'll learn essential skills and a strong understanding of basic trade skills and within construction systems. This course is packed with practical tasks, helping you to develop key skills for the workplace.
What You'll Learn:
This programme is all about helping you grow personally, socially, and academically, preparing you for your next level of learning or future employment. You'll develop your confidence, life skills, and employability skills in a supportive and welcoming atmosphere.
You will get hands-on experience in our practical workshops, covering areas such as:
- Bricklaying
- Plastering
- Carpentry and Joinery
- Painting & Decorating
- Electrical Installation
- Plumbing Skills.
Beyond the workshops, you'll also develop vital skills in communication, teamwork, and leadership through engaging enrichment activities. These activities are designed to boost your confidence and help you overcome any anxieties, and you'll even work towards completing an entry-level certificate in Building and Construction.
We'll also focus on boosting your literacy and numeracy skills, and when you're ready, you'll have the chance to earn Essential Skills Wales qualifications in Communication and Application of Number. Plus, lots of practical tasks in this course will naturally help you improve your Maths, English, and Digital Literacy skills.
You'll be supported every step of the way by your own dedicated Progress Coach. They'll ensure any support you need is in place right from the start, and adapt to any new needs that might come up during your programme, helping you succeed. This course is all about meeting your individual needs and learning differences.
The programme runs over three days a week for one year, with a mix of engaging classroom sessions, practical workshop activities (at Bersham Road), and exciting off-site experiences.
You will also have the opportunity to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. In addition to your main construction qualification, you'll earn a City & Guilds Entry Level 3 Certificate in Employability. This certificate focuses on key industry-related skills, including financial awareness, self-employment, interview techniques, teamwork, communication and much more, preparing you directly for a career in construction or progression to the next level of learning in your chosen trade.

You’ll complete WEST diagnostic assessments for literacy and numeracy to help us understand your needs and support your learning journey. You’ll also work on a range of units to achieve your qualifications, which we’ll assess through a variety of methods, including building a portfolio, written and online projects and practical assessments carried out in a realistic working environment during your workshop activity sessions.
Throughout the course, we’ll help you plan your next steps. You could progress to:
