Course Overview
The Level 3 Diploma can be undertaken as a one-year Diploma or a full two-year Extended Diploma. This course is designed to provide you with the necessary skills, knowledge, and understanding to progress to Degree Level study in Art and Design or enter employment. It offers an opportunity for those interested in visual arts to explore, develop, and test their creativity within a stimulating and demanding qualification structure, providing a supportive transition from further to Higher Education.
Both the Diploma and Extended Diploma in Art and Design emphasise experiential, and integrated learning. These qualifications focus on applying practical skills while acknowledging the common principles and distinctive characteristics of various Art and Design disciplines. You will develop practical skills and theoretical understanding through a process of reiteration and reinforcement, leading to effective working practices that support creativity across a range of stimulating and increasingly demanding activities.
You will gain skills through diverse activities, including working in 2D, 3D and 4D, such as drawing from observation, painting, textiles, craft making, digital art, animation, photography, printmaking and ceramics. Opportunities to collaborate with practicing artists, designers, and craftspeople will be available. You will also participate in cultural and contextual activities and educational visits to support your studies. Your learning program includes qualifications such as the Welsh Baccalaureate.
