Course Overview
The aim of this programme is to provide a work-related, competence-based qualification. It reflects the skills and knowledge needed to effectively do a job within the animal care industry, and shows that a learner is competent in this area of work. The Animal Training route is suitable for most learners in an animal care working environment, who also undertake elements of animal training. However, other pathways are available, including Dog Grooming, Animal Care and Welfare, Pet Care and Retail, Zoos and Wildlife Establishments, Animal Welfare Enforcement, Dog/Animal Wardens, and Animals in Education and Entertainment.
This level is ideal if you've worked in animal care for some time. You have plenty of experience, and you want to show that you have the skills you need to do your job well. This may be part of your professional development, or preparation for higher-level training.
To earn this qualification, you must complete a range of mandatory and optional units, totalling 54 or more credits. The exact selection of optional units you can choose from may depend on your job role, and can be tailored to meet your training needs, and the needs of your employer. Optional units include:
*Select animals for training
*Design individual training programmes for animals
*Implement individual training programmes for animals
*Evaluate and improve training programmes which enable animals to achieve specific objectives
*Plan, supervise and control the movement of animals
*Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security of the workplace
If completing this course as part of an Apprenticeship Framework, learners are required to undertake the Essential Skills qualifications at level 2, in Application of Number, Communication, and Digital Literacy.
