Course Overview
This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for Hairdressing and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior Hairdresser/Hairstylist.

Learners must achieve all mandatory units which include:

● Style and Dress Hair
● Colour and Lighten
● Consultation
● Shampoo and Condition Hair

They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with clients, provide a range of basic cutting, colouring and lightening services.
Alongside these are units to develop skills in setting, dressing, blow-drying and styling hair with electrical equipment.
In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills, their awareness of environmental sustainability and their commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers.
Problem solving and research skills will also be developed.

Learners will be completing regular work experience sessions the commercial salon at Yale, Salon Ial whilst studying their qualifications. Developing Employability skills is a fundamental aspect of this course

In addition to the Level 2 Hairdressing qualification, the learning area programme consists of the following compulsory elements to the course:

● Essential Skills Wales training and assessments
● Development of Welsh language skills
● All learners must complete a Work Placement

Please note that your timetable may include some evening sessions. Dates will be provided by your tutor on Induction.

Please note that a kit and uniform are required to be able to study this course.
Coursework is by continuous assessment and learners can gain a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including Maths and English Language/Welsh (1st Language), or successful completion of Hairdressing Level 1.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
On successful completion of this course, learners are able to progress to the Level 3 Hairdressing course or a Modern Apprenticeship in Hairdressing.
