Course Overview
This is a part-time course run over two academic years (64 weeks) for one day a week.

Open to all learners that hold a Level 2 Technical Certificate/ Diploma in Floristry and designed for those wanting to gain the next level of qualification whilst working/ balancing home life.

This course provides an in-depth insight into the floristry industry, developing your skills, knowledge and experience at an advanced level to gain floristry-related employment and stretch you towards a more senior role and level of responsibility within a Floristry Business.

You will be involved in creating designs for events and weddings, public demonstrations and commercial sales.

The subjects you will study are a wide range of floristry-related topics, including the creative design process, plant and flower care, tied floral designs, floral designs in a medium, wired and glued floral designs, business management and marketing, health and safety, trends in the floristry industry and event floristry.

You will have the incredible opportunity to benefit from taking part in a range of challenging floristry projects, such as real-life weddings from start to finish, and planning innovative designs to suit the bride. You will also plan and carry out public demonstrations and have the chance to take part in prestigious competitions such as The UK Skills Competition.

The fantastic facilities and passionate, expert staff will give you a head start in your chosen career path. Learning will be as fun as possible and you will learn through a variety of methods, including lectures, individual and group work, practical work, and will use a range of modern learning technology.

English and Maths are an integral part of the programme. We will work with you to improve your literacy and numeracy skills and provide you with the opportunity to develop your digital literacy skills. There will be a requirement for you to attend college in blocks of 2 days to complete assessments throughout the two years. The tutor will ensure you have these dates in plenty of time and they don’t coincide with busy periods in the industry.

It is expected that you will have your own Floristry kit and will bring it with you each week.
The course is assessed through an examination and a controlled assessment synoptic assignment. Throughout the programme you will take part in a range of mock examinations and assessments, as well as informal practice assessments to help you with learning the course content effectively.

You will also carry out an external work experience placement in the floristry industry of 150 hours

English and Maths may involve sitting examinations.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English / Welsh (1st Language), Maths/Numeracy and Science.
and
a minimum of pass at Level 2 Technical Certificate in Floristry.

You will be assessed in your floristry practical skills (where relevant), to demonstrate a satisfactory standard of skill and confidence with designs.
Progression to Higher Education (university). You will need to gain the required UCAS points specific to the course of your choice

For those learners wishing to go into employment, the Level 3 course will equip you with theoretical and practical skills that are applicable to many roles in the floristry industry, as well as a range of personal, social and wider skills that are relevant to a broader range of career opportunities.

Typical examples of employment routes include senior florist, supervisor, event specialist, or lecturer, or alternatively, you will be well equipped to consider self-employment, for example as a freelancer or a manager/owner.

You will be required to bring flowers and materials with you each week.

The tutor will provide you with a list each week and this will average at about £15 per week.
