Course Overview
This course is ideal for creative students who are interested in developing a career in floristry. The course covers a range of floristry skills that are essential to the floristry industry covering designs such as tied, funeral and wedding.

You will also gain an insight into botanical names of flowers and plants, the range of jobs available in the industry and what organisations there are that support florists today.

As part of the course, students participate in interesting educational visits and work experiences

There is a strong emphasis on work experience in this qualification which suggests that a minimum of 150 hours of work experience is completed during the course.

Students have access to high-quality facilities, well-equipped practical workshops and extensive online resources. A wide range of common and unusual fresh flowers, foliage and sundries are provided to students as part of the course.

Learning will be as fun as possible and you will learn through a variety of methods, including lectures and practical work, and will use a range of modern learning technology.

English and Maths are an integral part of the programme and we will work with you to improve your literacy and numeracy skills, as well as provide an opportunity to re-sit English and Maths GCSEs where relevant.
The course is assessed by a synoptic that includes a written exam, controlled assessment of practical skills, Work experience and Health and Safety.

Throughout the programme, you will take part in a range of mock examinations and assessments, as well as informal practice assessments to help you with learning the course content effectively.

There is a strong expectation that work is done at home to support learning on the course.

You will also carry out an external work experience placement in the Floristry industry.

English and maths may involve sitting examinations.
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including English/Welsh (1st Language) and Maths/Numeracy or Science,
or
Level 1 Diploma in Floristry (subject to meeting criteria).

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
Progression to Level 3 FE course or Level 3 Work Based Apprenticeship in Floristry.

The course aims to assist learners in obtaining employment as a retail florist within a Floristry business.

Successful students should consider enhancing their employment prospects by developing advanced design and supervisory skills.
