Course Overview
This is a practical course and you will gain skills in a variety of areas including Mechanical Engineering Processes, Bench Fitting, Lathe Work, Measurements and Calculations, and Health & Safety. The course will provide you with the theory and knowledge that underpins the competences learnt.

On successful completion of the course you will achieve the City & Guilds Technical Certificate Level 1 course plus essential skills in Application of Number, Communications.

City & Guilds 7682 Certificate Performing Engineering Operations: Practical Work (Example Units)
Unit 201 - Working Safely in an Engineering Environment
Unit 102 - Carrying out Engineering activities efficiently and effectively
Unit 103 - Using and Communicating Technical Information
Unit 104 - Making Components Using Hand Tools and Fitting Techniques
Unit 105 - Assembling Mechanical Components
Unit 107 – Using Lathes for turning operations

Development of Literacy and Numeracy Skills.

Work Related Experience.

Learners who have not achieved grade C in GCSE Mathematics and English will be expected to attend sessions to support this in addition to their vocational programme.
Practical assessments observed in fully equipped mechanical engineering workshops.

The underpinning knowledge will be tested by assignments and multi-choice questions and answers.
4 GCSEs at grade E or above including Maths and English Language/Welsh (1st Language), or successful completion of a relevant Entry level qualification

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
Employment in the Engineering/Mechanical Industry, progressing to more specialised courses such as PEO L2.
Learners without GCSE grades A*-C in Maths, English/Welsh (1st Lanaguage) continue to support these to support their progression into employment opportunities.
