Course Overview
AS: Government, Revolution and Society in Wales & England c1603-1715 (the period study).

This period covers the Stuart Monarchy – Students will study James I and his rule and issues with the 1605 Gun Powder Plot. Further examination of Charles I will identify why the English Civil war breaks out in 1642. Students will then analyse the execution of Charles I, the abolishment of the Monarchy, Cromwell’s rule and the restoration of the Monarchy.

AS: Weimar Germany, c1918-1933 (the depth study)

The usual elements of Weimar will be examined, social, economic and political and familiar periods will be covered, 1918-1923, 1924-1929 and 1929 to 1933. The analysis will focus on how successful Weimar governments were in trying to stabilise politics and the economy. Related to Weimar’s fortunes will be an investigation of the rise of Hitler and the Nazi Party. This will be looking at leadership, Nazi ideology, party organisation, propaganda, the SA and SS, and the nature of the electorate.

A2

The A2 consists of: - the period study, USA 1890 to 1990 looking at Civil rights and how the US became a Super Power.
Depth study of the Third Reich, 1933-1945.
The final element, the coursework, will be an extended piece of writing of 3000-4000 words.
The AS Period study will be assessed by a choice of structured questions, while the Depth Study will have evidence-based questions.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including Maths and meet the following criteria:

– GCSE English Language / Welsh (1st Language) at grade B/6 or above.
– GCSE History at grade C/4 or above.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
History provides students with a range of skills, including analysis and synthesis, which many careers seek, for instance, law or management. Other careers more obviously connected are, for example, archivist, museum curator, worker in the heritage industry, teacher or lecturer.
Some courses may require equipment and/or uniforms to be purchased. Please see attached equipment list for further information.
