The RPC offers open access printmaking facilities, workshops, courses and events for those who are new to printmaking as well as professional development for more experienced printmakers and artists. The centre also coordinates specialist classes, lectures and demonstrations for art groups, schools, colleges and community groups.
The Regional Print Centre has for 20 years been a leading centre for the development of creative printmaking. It is based in Wrexham North Wales and housed in the Memorial Art Building, Coleg Cambria’s Yale site.
The Centre was started by 2 passionate printmakers Luci Melegari and Anna Adair who saw the potential to use the college’s print studio as a creative hub for printmakers in the region to provide an open access facility dedicated to supporting, training and promoting printmaking in its many different forms.
The RPC continues to provide opportunities for our members. We aim to teach, encourage and nurture new creatives and help established artists develop their approach to printmaking, over the years the staff has changed at the centre but the enthusiasm of the membership and the ethos carries on.
As an RPC member you have access to our Rochat etching press, Hawthorn 545 press, A3 book press, and various other presses. Our etching room is equipped with both Ferric and Copper Sulphate solution. Our traditional Aquatint box or the alternative spray aquatint option is available. Various relief print presses are available as well as some steel ball barrens for hand printing. Two screen beds can be booked for members use as can the fabric screen tables. Many of our members like to use the hinged board we can provide too. The Centre can offer Risograph printing with a range of colours available. Members have access to a range of printing inks for a small charge, we also stock a limited range of metal plate and relief lino and vinyls. Our range of printmaking papers can be purchased at competitive prices.
At certain points during the year we have the facilities to ourselves allowing daytime access to the Print Studio this gives the RPC opportunities for bespoke workshops with guest artists
Each year the RPC hosts a Print Symposium. Invited printmakers join together to discuss and talk about a themed topic related to print. Previous speakers include Paul Croft RE, Laura Boswell RE, Hilary Painter RE, Leonie Bradley RE and many more.
