AS level Business Studies students from Coleg Cambria have been successful once again in another competition, the Making Business Happen Awards.
George Wilbraham, Gugulabazali Ndlovu and Tushar Bhatia who are all students at Yale Sixth, Coleg Cambria in Wrexham formed a company called the ‘Original Health Company’ and put themselves forward for the Awards which were held in the University of South Wales with Natwest. The team produced a sophisticated business plan which they presented before judges from the business world.
The Awards, now in their third year, are designed to highlight young entrepreneurial talent, rewarding groups and individuals for their commitment and approach to developing an effective or innovative business idea. This year saw 30 entries from students across the UK. Only 10 entrants were shortlisted and invited to the event so the team knew they were up against the toughest competition possible.
The team came second in the finals and are donating £500 of their prize money to Coleg Cambria to set up an Enterprise Committee which will run student-led enterprise activities. The College will also receive a comprehensive business support and mentoring package from the University of South Wales Business School.
Coleg Cambria Business Studies Lecturer, Mel Henry said, “They’ve done exceptionally well. Their commitment, passion and maturity throughout this experience has been exceptional.”
Deputy Director for Learner Experience and Enterprise at Cambria, Rona Griffiths said, “This is a huge achievement for such a young group. This is the same group of students who came 2nd at BigIdeasWales Celebrated in March and won the Wales Enterprise Skills competition in April.
“I can’t wait to see what they have planned for next year!”
This is just the entrepreneurial behaviour that Coleg Cambria are keen to promote and develop, having joined with 300 leaders from across Wales for the launch of #BeTheSpark at Motorpoint Cardiff the very same week.
