Local learners return to college after benefiting from Aberystwyth Summer University.
Ella Price and Lana Williams both 17 from Flint who are studying Childcare at Coleg Cambria were successful in their application to secure a place on the residential programme held over six weeks. The programme prepares students for Higher Education whilst also giving them the opportunity to experience University life.
“I really enjoyed the Summer University” said Ella, “we learnt loads and we had a really good time. Following on from this we hope to go to Aberystwyth University in September to study Childhood Studies.”
Ella and Lana who also enjoyed sports and social activities during their time in Aberystwyth studied Childhood Studies, English Literature and Spanish in two week blocks during the programme. Both have now been offered a guaranteed progression route to an appropriate scheme at Aberystwyth University on condition that 2 A levels (or equivalent) are passed and any specific requirements are met.
Childcare Lecturer at Coleg Cambria, Sian Parry said:
“Ella and Lana are both lovely students who worked very hard on their Childcare course at college, they are highly motivated and have involved themselves in all aspects of college life, both have undertaken the role of ‘college buddy’ and supported new learners on taster and induction days.
“I was so pleased when at the end of their first week at Aberystwyth they contacted me to say they were having a great time and their first unit on Childhood Studies was easy because of the work they had already studied at college. I wish both girls every success on their Level 3 Extended Diploma Childcare course and am sure they will achieve with the high grades they deserve.”Go back
