Student Reps

Your Voice, Your Union!

Student Reps

Student or Class Reps:

Student Reps are also known as Class Reps, and the two terms are used interchangeably.

Class Reps are the Reps who make up most of the numbers of the Student Voice Rep system and are elected directly within their class or tutor groups by the other students in their class.

Each subject area or directorate works slightly differently, so some of you may belong to Tutor Groups or Pastoral Groups, have Personal Tutors, Pastoral Tutors or Progress Coaches – whatever system or group you are in, at the start of each academic year your group will be asked to elect two Class Reps to represent them.

Again, each class will handle their election process slightly differently, however, it must be handled as an election process in order to comply with our Student Constitution.

Pre-Meetings:

Before Student Rep Meetings come up, Student Reps are expected to request some time from their Tutor during a pastoral session (usually 10-15 minutes is enough) to gain feedback from their class that would need raising at a Student Rep Meeting.

This feedback can be anything from issues and concerns to ideas and suggestions. As well as looking at what might need solving or fixing we also look at what ideas or plans you and your class might have that you want to put to the college for consideration. In addition to this, we also encourage our Student Reps to look at how they might consider potential solutions to the issues being raised.

Student Rep Meetings:

Student Reps are expected to attend a minimum of two Student Rep meetings per year, one per term. During these meetings, we look at the feedback gained by the Student Reps during their in-class sessions and look at how we can resolve any issues they may have raised or start working on any ideas or proposals they have suggested to us.

Campus Council Reps:

Our Student Reps are also invited to consider the role of Campus Council Rep and look at the opportunity to progress through to Student Presidency.
