Campus Leaders 2021-22

Our Campus Leaders team is made up of our Student Governors, Student Presidents, Student Vice-Presidents and supported by our Campus Council Vice-Chairs. Our team for the 2021/22 Academic Year can be seen below, along with links to their Student Voice profiles.

Each position is allocated only for a single year term and is re-elected each year. Certain roles will also require submission of CV and/or additional application documentation along with undergoing a selection and interview process.

Student Vice-Presidents:

  • These positions are elected in the May-June of the previous academic year to the year of their position.
  • Candidates must run for Vice-Presidency for the campus they will be studying on in the next academic year.
  • Only students studying on the campus where the candidate is campaigning for can vote for the candidates presented to them for their campus.
  • It is up to the student whether they choose to vote or not – we do not use the ‘Vote of no confidence’ option.
  • All students can only vote once in each election.

Student Presidents:

  • These positions are elected in the September-October of the current academic year during which they are already in position as Student Vice-President.
  • The only eligible candidates for Student President are the Student Vice-Presidents.
  • ALL Student Vice-Presidents are required to submit a campaign for Student Presidency.
  • Votes can be received from students from any of the three campuses within the Vice-President’s Campus Group; North-East: Yale, Bersham Road and Llysfasi; North-West: Deeside, D6th and Northop.
  • It is up to the student whether they choose to vote or not – we do not use the ‘Vote of no confidence’ option.
  • All students can only vote once in each election.

Student Governors:

The Student Governor process involves a process of recommendation or referral as well as submission of a CV and other application documentation. From here the candidates’ applications then go through a selection process until the final candidates, 1 from each campus – in this case, 5 final candidates as Deeside and D6th are considered a single campus for the Student Governor selection processes – are chosen to go through for the final interview stage. The interview is conducted by the ‘Search Committee’ from the Board of Governors, the team responsible for interviewing and selecting the successful two Student Governors.

The successful Student Governors will be supported by Student Voice and by the Clerk to the Board of Governors. In addition to this, each Student Governor will have a Mentor from the Board of Governors to assist them with their progress during their term.

Campus Council Vice-Chairs:

During our first Campus Council meeting each academic year, our Student Vice-President in the position of the Chair of the meeting requests that anyone wanting to put themselves forward for the position of Vice-Chair makes themselves known at the beginning of the meeting. They each make a brief statement on why they should be the Vice-Chair before being asked to leave the room while all remaining members are asked to vote on who they wish to be the Vice-Chair.

This method is the same as used in many board-style meetings and helps to prepare our students for this scenario going forward.
