Course Overview
The Level 1 Diploma offers an introduction to creative media with a practice based programme of study, that will challenge and develop learners skills. Students will learn the concept of development through the different stages of production, whilst using industry standard equipment during creative media activities.

Who is this course for?
If you have an interest in media but have had very little experience with the subject, then this might be the right start for you. This course has been especially designed to offer students a broad range of creative media skills. You do not need prior experience, but an interest in media is essential. You will gain a nationally recognised qualification whilst doing something that you enjoy and build your confidence in the broad subject of creative media.

What will I study?
● Animation - learn a range of different Stop-Motion techniques
● Traditional Photography - learn how to develop photos in a dark room
● Digital Photography - learn how to use a DSLR camera, and try studio photography
● Digital Images - learn how to manipulate images using Photoshop
● Filming - learn how to script, storyboard, light, shoot and edit footage
● Audio - learn how to record and create sound FX

Your learning programme will also be made up of GCSE English Language and Maths lessons if a grade C - A* (4-9) has not been previously achieved. The programme is delivered over three or four days and will be a mixture of theory and practical delivery.

How will I be assessed?
Your work will be assessed against a set criteria given to you prior to the undertaking of each assignment. Tasks are given out and submitted online with set deadlines. Regular feedback throughout the year allows you to know how you are progressing on the course and how to improve.

Learners will also be assigned a Pastoral Coach who will support them throughout their time on the programme. They will ensure that any ALN support is put in place before learners start and that any new support needs that may arise are incorporated into their programme to help them to succeed.
This is a coursework based qualification and therefore has no exams. In order to achieve the qualification, you must successfully pass seven units. The final unit, ‘Art, design and media project’ allows you to demonstrate all the learning that has taken place through completion of the other units. This unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction and determines the overall qualification grade.
4 GCSEs at grade E/2 or above one of which must be in English Language/Welsh (1st Language) or Maths.

For all learners who are looking to progress onto this L1 course from Foundation Skills – you must have achieved your E3 qualification, progressed in English and Maths and hit all of the targets in your ILP.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
Learners will be supported to plan their next steps throughout the course. Progression could be to one of the following:

Level 2 media, or a new course in a different vocational area of your choice
Traineeship or apprenticeship programme
