You will study a range of topics including values and principles within childcare, health, well-being, learning and development, professional practice, safeguarding, promoting play, learning and development, behaviours and additional needs.

There is a significant placement element attached to the course and you will be required to achieve a minimum of 700 hours in a relevant setting over the 2 years.
This course is made up of a mixture of mandatory units and optional units. The units will be a mixture of knowledge and understanding and competence and skills.

Assessments therefore take the form of:
● an externally set, internally marked set of tasks (year 1)
● a portfolio of evidence – linked to placement – observations and activity plans. (year 1)
● Observations of your practice within the work setting (year 1 & 2)
● a professional discussion with the assessor (year 1)
● exam paper ( year 2)
● extended piece of writing (year 2)

The above will complete the qualification giving learners a TWO A levels. Welsh Baccalaureate will be delivered alongside the programme to enable learners to gain additional UCAS points.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including Maths, English/Welsh (1st Language) and preferably Science, or successful completion of a relevant Level 2 qualification at Distinction level.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
