Course Overview
This Independent Living Skills course is designed to help learners with learning disabilities and/or difficulties to develop and extend the skills needed for everyday life and work.

Students on this Entry level course will follow a varied curriculum that includes embedded Functional Skills, Life and Living Skills, Vocational Skills, and Health and Wellbeing.

New Students undertake a comprehensive initial assessment and induction before progressing to an individualised timetable linked to their specific targets. Students are supported to choose from a range of vocational activities including:- Animal Care, Equine, Workshop Skills, Retail Crafts and Furniture Restoration, Car Valeting, Hair and Beauty, Construction, Hospitality and/or Catering, Business and Admin and Retail.
Each learner has an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) that records their personalised goals and targets. Students receive regular 1:1 support from their personal tutor to review their progress. Individualised targets ensure progress toward long term destinations.
Most learners will be working towards Entry 2. This course is intended for applicants with complex, moderate learning difficulties and/or social and behavioural difficulties.

All applications are considered on an individual basis and offers are based on interview and a range of supporting evidence including prior achievements and a support needs assessment. We ask all applicants to attend a taster session as part of the application process to establish their suitability, potential and additional support needs. Learners suited to this course will have an Education plan (Learning Skills Plan or Education Health Care Plan) which details their additional learning needs.
Possible progression from this course is the preparation for the work programme or a vocational programme at Entry 3. The course also supports progression to greater independence, independent and/or supported living, and a variety of work related contexts. There are also opportunities to explore progression into paid, supported or voluntary employment where appropriate.
Some courses may require equipment and/or uniforms to be purchased. Please see attached equipment list for further information.
