Course Overview
The Level 3 Diploma can be taken as a one year Diploma or as a full two year Extended Diploma. The Diploma in BackstageTheatre Production covers the skills required to work in theatres, music venues, festivals, TV & Film studios and stage, event & artist management. You will learn skills in the areas of production and stage management, stage lighting, live and recorded sound, projection mapping & A/V, prop making, scenic construction and front of house operations. These skills will be built vocationally by working on real commercial productions such as theatre & musical performances and also through site specific projects, giving you a chance to creatively use your technical knowledge gained through study on the course. There is a focus on industry standard working practices and you will develop a portfolio of professional experience to enable you to either progress to employment in industry, or specialise further at university.

This course is a full-time vocational programme and is suitable for entry to a range of advanced specialist undergraduate degree courses nationally, with a proven track record of successful student progression into both university and directly into industry

Your learning programme is made up of a number of qualifications including the Welsh Baccalaureate. Coleg Cambria is committed to supporting your progression to employment or Higher Education. Therefore, all courses at Coleg Cambria provide the opportunity for the development of English and Maths to Level 2 and ideally to GCSE Grade C/4 if you haven't already achieved this at school/college. This will enhance your prospects in the jobs market and will also enable progression to Higher Education.
The UAL qualification is centred around a range of skill-building units, with a final major project at the end of each year in a chosen area of study being the only graded unit which is internally and externally assessed. You will be assessed on both portfolio/coursework and your practical contribution to productions, projects and events.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English Language/Welsh (1st Language), or for progression learners the successful completion of L2 Creative Arts qualification such as Performing Arts awarded at Merit or Distinction.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
This course can lead directly to a career as a Stage Manager, Event Coordinator, Lighting Designer, Sound Designer, Theatre Technician, TV/Film Studio Technician, Festival Crew, Production Manager, Entertainment Operator, Stage Designer, Propmaker, Rigger & numerous related roles.
