Part Time, 2 years – part time, day releaseStudents on this course will be required to undertake periods of self study, additional to taught hours.This programme will be delivered through a combination of online and face to face sessions to suit your individual needs, subject to us being able to work within the Welsh Government guidance and legislation to ensure the safety of you and our staff. We will also continue to support those with additional learning needs remotely. Please note that where work placements are not able to be fulfilled for safety reasons we will adapt modules to include work related projects in a way that will still develop your work based skills.

Course Overview
The HNC in Electrical and Electronic Technology is offered at Cambria through a collaborative agreement with Wrexham Glyndŵr University. It comprises of two year’s part-time study
with day release and requires the completion of vocationally specific modules.

The aim of the programme is to prepare students for a range of higher technical, professional and managerial careers in engineering by providing specialised studies which are relevant to those vocations and professions within which students are employed.

HNCs are benchmark qualifications for Engineering Technicians, recognised by industry and essential for certain positions in HM Forces. Our HNC courses introduce you to the fundamentals of electrical engineering science, the business and management skills you’ll need to succeed and provide you with an opportunity to hone your maths and IT skills.

MODULES:
Level 4 (20 credits - 60 taught hours /140 hours private study)
• Business & Management Techniques
• Programmable Logic Controllers
• Engineering Mathematics
• Electrical Engineering Science
• Instrumentation & Control Principles

Level 4 (10 credits - 30 taught hours / 70 hours private study)
• Engineering Design
• Electronics ‘A’

Level 5 (20 credits - 30 taught hours / 170 hours work-based)
• Project (Industrial based)

Level 5 (10 credits - 30 taught Hours /70 hours private study)
• Electrical and Electronic Principles
Assessment is undertaken through written submission, time-controlled examinations and practical activities. All are subject to Glyndŵr University assessment procedures.
• Edexcel BTEC (Level 3) Diploma or Certificate or one A Level in Mathematics or a relevant science subject plus one other.

• Suitable experience may be accepted instead of formal qualifications subject to interview.

Upon completion learners could progress onto further Higher Education courses such as Foundation Industrial Engineering (FdEng) and BEng (Hons) degree.
