Course Overview
This is a practical course and you will gain the skills to become a welder, sheet metal worker or fabricator. You will develop a range of skills in metal fabrication, engineering drawing and a range of welding techniques as well as health & safety.

Unit 202: Principles of Engineering Technology
Unit 203: Using and communication engineering information
Unit 222:Producing sheet metal components and assemblies
Unit 228: Preparing and using manual TIG or plasma-arc welding equipment
Unit 229: Preparing and using semi-automatic MAG, MIG and flux cored welding equipment

Optional Unit 207: Forming and Assembling Pipework
Optional Unit 227: Preparing and Using MMA Welding Equipment

Development of Literacy and Numeracy Skills

Work Related Experience

Learners who have not achieved a grade C/4 in GCSE Mathematics and English will be expected to attend sessions to support this in addition to their vocational programme.
The course requires continual assessment of college based assignments which will be collated as portfolio evidence to meet the requirements of the awarding body.
Applicants should have completed the Level 1 Diploma in Fabrication & Welding with a minimum of a good grade pass.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
An increasing number of employers in the fabrication and welding industry now see the acquisition of relevant National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), Essential Skills, City and Guilds certificates as an essential feature of their skills training programmes.

Opportunities may exist to gain trainee employment in any of the following trade disciplines: Sheet Metal Fabrication and Welding, Pipefitting & Steelwork construction.

Following a successful first year of study, progression to the level 2 Programme in Fabrication and Welding or as an employed Foundation Apprentice.

Learners who gain employment may also, depending on conditions offered by their employers, have the opportunity to progress to Level 3 in Fabrication and Welding in the future.
