Course Overview
The AS/A2 is a challenging, rewarding and enjoyable programme of study and offers a valuable experience for you if you have a keen interest and aptitude in this subject area.

AS and A2 Drama and Theatre Studies offers the opportunity to deepen and broaden an intellectual and practical understanding of the subject area and also develop confidence, communication and presentation skills.

At AS you will understand and analyse live performances, study a set text and perform a scripted piece. At A2 you will study two set texts and devise a piece of original drama. You will be required to attend professional theatre performances regularly.
At AS Level
Unit 1- Theatre workshop is a practical non exam assessment which is internally assessed, and externally moderated.
Unit 2 -Text in Theatre is a written examination.

At A2 Level
Unit 3- Text in Action is a practical non exam assessment which is externally assessed by a visiting examiner.
Unit 4-Text in Performance is a written examination.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English Language/Welsh (1st Language) and GCSE English Literature at grade C/4 or above.

It is not necessary to have a GCSE in Drama or any previous theatrical experience; however, a passion for the theatre is essential.

Should an A level applicant have or be predicted a grade D/3 in either GCSE Maths or English (and at least a grade C/4 in the other subject) then your application will be considered.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
You can continue Drama & Theatre based studies at university or at one of the nationally recognised Drama Schools or gain employment in the Performing Arts Industries.

The course has also proved useful for pursuing other career choices that involve analytical, personal presentation and communication skills.
Some courses may require equipment and/or uniforms to be purchased. Please see attached equipment list for further information.
