Course Overview

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is an introduction to teaching that will give participants an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, as well as how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching sessions and how to assess and give constructive feedback.

This qualification can help you to progress in training roles in a wide range of organisations in the lifelong learning sector.

(Unit 301) Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training

To enable the learner to understand the role and responsibilities of a teacher and the relationship between different professionals in education and training. It includes responsibility for maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment. [3 credits]


(Unit 302) Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training

To enable the learner to understand and use inclusive teaching and learning approaches. It includes how to create a learning environment that engages and motivates and to be able to plan, deliver and evaluate approaches and methods used. [6 credits]

(Unit 305) Understanding assessment in education and training

To enable the learners to understand how different types and methods of assessment are used. It includes ways of involving learners in assessment and requirements for effective record keeping. It also includes a practical microteach to peers of 30 minutes on a topic chosen from own subject specialism. [3 credits]


In order to successfully gain the full Level 3 Award in Education and Training, learners must attain the 12 credits.

There are no entry requirements to the programme, although all learners will need to complete online Wales Essential Skills Toolkit (WEST) assessments in literacy, numeracy and digital literacy.
Learners will produce a Portfolio of Evidence comprising of 3 written assignments (for units 301, 302 and 305) and a practical assignment, i.e. a 20 minute micro teach delivered to peers and supporting evidence (unit 302).
This qualification can help you to progress in learning and development roles in a wide range of organisations in the lifelong learning sector. These include both public sector and private sector organisations.
