Course Overview
This programme is a partnership between Project Search, ASDA Queensferry and Coleg Cambria to support students in their transition into the workplace where they will learn transferable skills for employment.
This course is a one year internship programme, supporting learners to gain valuable employment skills within the retail setting at ASDA, Queensferry. This programme is five days a week in the workplace, working in the store, experiencing different aspects of the retail departments which will help them when seeking employment or volunteering work in the future. Students have classroom-based sessions throughout the week. These are based at ASDA to underpin skills and knowledge ensuring learners have what they need to succeed.
Communication, numeracy and digital literacy skills remain a key part of learning, with opportunities to develop and practice these skills within the workplace.
The aim of the supported internships is to prepare learners for paid employment by:
*Supporting them to develop skills valued by employers.
*Enabling them to demonstrate their value in the workplace.
*Developing confidence in their own abilities to perform successfully at work.
Destination-led planning is key for each learner.
All activities on this programme will be designed to provide learners with the relevant knowledge, skills and understanding for their individual journey.
An Employability Mentor and Job Coach support the learners on site throughout the programme to ensure support and guidance are on hand, leading to working independently within the ASDA team.

Each student has an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) that records their personalised goals and targets. Students receive regular 1:1 support from their Personal Tutor and Transitions Officer to review their progress and support within the placement. Individualised targets ensure progress toward long term destinations. A relevant qualification or units may also be achieved whilst on programme.
This programme is designed for learners with learning disabilities and/or difficulties who require support to enter into paid employment. It is suitable for learners progressing from ILS Programmes. This programme is based on-site at ASDA where the majority of the programme is practical work experience. New students undertake a comprehensive initial assessment and induction before progressing to an individualised work experience programme linked to their specific targets and aspirations. Learners suited to this course will have an Education plan (IDP or Education Health Care Plan) which details their additional learning needs.
