Course Overview
The course has been developed for individuals working in, or intending to work, in the Health and Social Care sector.
You will complete the core qualification alongside the Principles and Context qualification.
The qualification will provide a thorough introduction to the principles, values and knowledge needed to work in the Health and Social Care sectors with adults and children and young people.
The content for the Core qualification includes the following themes:
● Principles and Values
● Health and Wellbeing
● Professional Practice
● Safeguarding
● Health and Safety.
The Principles and Context includes two mandatory units covering current topics including:
● Growth and Development
● The role and responsibilities of workers in the Health and Social Care sector
● The role and purpose of promoting Health and Well-being
You will experience sector engagement experiences and have the opportunity to attend a placement during the academic year. You will be expected to complete a minimum of 60 sector engagement which includes placement.

The Principles and Context qualification is assessed by one externally set and marked written examination and one internally assessed assignment. The assignment will require you to draw on your sector engagement and work placement experiences.

4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including English Language/Welsh (1st Language) and Maths. You must be able to demonstrate the potential to work independently and safely in health and social care settings.
Progression learners from level 1 courses will need to demonstrate they have achieved at least a Level 1 ESW for English and Maths if they have not achieved D’s in GCSE. Progression learners will apply in March with their Progress Coach.
At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
