Course Overview
The Foundation Diploma is the first year of a two year course.

There are six units to study in the first year of the course, which will give learners an introduction to and an understanding of the business environment.
Looking into developing a marketing campaign, studying personal and business finance and to apply vital skills by actually planning/launching their own business.
In addition, looking into social enterprise, how businesses need to adapt to change and how they work with innovation and creativity.
All of these are all important to the success of business organisations as well as understanding the place business has in our lives.

The Post 16 Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate is part of the programme of study and will offer the learner the opportunity to gain further personal and social awareness through the delivery of the Global Enterprise Challenge and the Community Challenge.
Two units are assessed through exams:

Unit 2 – Developing a Marketing Campaign
Unit 3 – Personal and Business Finance

Both exams are set through the awarding body (Pearson BTEC).

The other four units will be assessed through real life projects.
Running your own business (where you will apply all of your knowledge from the first term), where skills are developed in terms of social skills.
As well as building up confidence using negotiation skills, the ability to communicate outside of social circles and looking at how businesses can be profitable as well as environmentally and ethically responsible.

Written assignments are based on realistic workplace situations and will develop essential academic writing skills as well as assessing through podcasting, 1:2:1 discussions, videos and presentations as part of a hands-on assessment approach.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including Maths and English/Welsh (1st Language),
or
successful completion of a relevant level 2 qualification, with Maths and English Language/Welsh (1st Language) at grade C/4 or above.

At Coleg Cambria we would encourage you to do the very best that you can in your exams. The better your grades the more options you will have, and may result in you gaining entry onto a higher level course.
